How UK student loan repayments work

Source note: Thresholds are based on GOV.UK repayment guidance for 2026/27. Check your Student Loans Company account or payslip for your exact plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as interest?
No. This calculator estimates repayments from income, not loan interest or final write-off outcomes.
Can postgraduate and undergraduate repayments stack?
Yes. GOV.UK explains that postgraduate repayments use a separate 6% rate and can be deducted alongside undergraduate-plan repayments.
Why does my payslip differ slightly?
Payroll works by pay period and can be affected by bonuses, overtime, refunds, and plan records held by your employer.
