Use this GTA VI download time calculator to estimate how long the pre-load or download takes on your connection. Enter the download size, your line speed, how much of that speed you really get and how many hours a day you can leave it running.
GTA VI Download Time Calculator
Estimate download time from size and connection speed.
Result summary
Default estimate: 212 GB at 100 Mbps with 80% of that speed, 24 hours a day. 1 GB is counted as 1,000 MB.
How long does the GTA VI download take?
PlayStation asks you to clear a minimum of 212 GB on your PS5 for Grand Theft Auto VI, so the calculator starts with 212 GB. At 100 Mbps with 80% of that speed, the download takes about 5h 53m. A slower or busier connection takes longer, and a faster one takes much less.
No separate Xbox Series X|S size had been published when this page was last checked on 8 November 2026. If a different figure appears on your console’s store page, change the size field.
How the calculation works
The calculator turns your line speed into megabytes per second, then divides the download size by that rate.
- Effective speed in Mbps is your line speed multiplied by the share you choose.
- Megabytes per second is the effective speed divided by 8, because a byte is 8 bits.
- Download time is the size in MB divided by megabytes per second, rounded to the nearest minute.
- Days needed is the total hours divided by the hours a day you can download, rounded up.
At 100 Mbps with the full advertised speed, 212 GB takes about 4h 43m. If you only get half of that speed, the same download takes about 9h 25m. If your speed is quoted in MB/s, multiply by 8 to get Mbps.
Download time at common speeds
The table uses 212 GB and 80% of the advertised speed.
| Line speed | Effective speed at 80% | Time for 212 GB |
|---|---|---|
| 10 Mbps | 1 MB/s | 58h 53m |
| 25 Mbps | 2.5 MB/s | 23h 33m |
| 50 Mbps | 5 MB/s | 11h 47m |
| 100 Mbps | 10 MB/s | 5h 53m |
| 300 Mbps | 30 MB/s | 1h 58m |
| 500 Mbps | 50 MB/s | 1h 11m |
| 1,000 Mbps | 100 MB/s | 0h 35m |
Your own result depends on your router, your Wi-Fi signal and how busy the network is, so use the calculator with your own figures.
Advertised speed is not achieved speed
The speed on your broadband plan is a maximum for the line, not a promise for one device. Wi-Fi distance and walls, other people streaming, and busy evening hours all pull the number down. The share selector in the calculator is a planning assumption you control. It is not a measurement of your connection.
Run a speed test on the console itself, near the time you plan to download, and enter that figure if you want a closer estimate.
Pre-load and timing
Pre-loading opens on 10 November 2026, at local midnight on PS5 and at 12 a.m. GMT on Xbox. The game itself releases at midnight local time on 19 November 2026. Pre-loading does not make the game playable early, but it means the files are ready when it unlocks.
Make sure the drive has room first with the GTA VI Storage Calculator, find your moment with the GTA VI Release Time Calculator, and see the whole bill with the GTA VI Cost Calculator.
Practical tips
- Use a wired connection if your console is near the router. It removes the Wi-Fi variable.
- Pause other downloads and streams on the network while the game downloads.
- Start as soon as pre-load opens, not the night before release, so a slow day does not cost you launch time.
- If you can only leave the console downloading part of the day, lower the hours field to see how many days it takes.
- The full set is on the Gaming Calculators page.
FAQ
How long does GTA 6 take to download at 100 Mbps?
About 5h 53m for 212 GB if you get 80% of the advertised speed, and about 4h 43m if you get all of it.
How long does it take at 50 Mbps?
About 11h 47m for 212 GB at 80% of the advertised speed. Use the table above or the calculator for other speeds.
Does the download time include the day-one patch?
No. No patch size had been published when this page was checked, so the calculator covers the 212 GB figure only. Add the patch size to the download size field when you know it.
Is the download size different on Xbox?
No Xbox figure had been published when this page was checked on 8 November 2026. Use 212 GB as a working number until the store page shows one.
Can you play before 19 November by pre-loading?
No. Rockstar says the game releases at midnight local time on 19 November 2026 in all regions, on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
This is a planning estimate, not a guarantee. Real download times vary, so check your own connection before you rely on it.
Sources and assumptions
- PlayStation US: Grand Theft Auto VI product page, checked 8 November 2026
- Rockstar Games Support: regional pre-load and release times, updated 3 November 2026
Assumptions: 212 GB download size, 80% of advertised speed unless you change it, 1 GB counted as 1,000 MB, and no patches or retries. If a size were counted in binary units, where one gibibyte is 1,073,741,824 bytes, the estimate would lengthen by about 7%.
